It has been a week and I have done a lot! Including turning 21, so mostly that. Work has been lovely, the buying season is approaching so there has been lot's to do and another intern has arrived so I have been upgraded to the cooler more intriguing tasks! Wednesday was my birthday, my best birthday yet, filled with lot's of laughs, wisdom, and Hispanics. Morgan who was apparently deprived of the "Look at Me" birthday sash and crown on her 21st, felt the need to live vicariously through me by insisting I wear a birthday princess pin. I suppose I can be grateful it wasn't a sash. So we started my birthday Tuesday night at midnight at the bar behind our apartment where we walked into as Morgan immediately screamed "Its her birthday!" to the 60 plus bartender, 3 Hispanic guys who work there, and a couple in the back. Great crowd, great start. The bartender was entertained enough by us to make us all free skittles shots, including the Hispanic guys to which they cheered "Happy Birthday Yessika!"
I spent my entire Birth-day with another entertaining Hispanic, Martha. ( Who as well referred to me as Yessika the entire day.) I have mentioned her before (she helps keeps things tidy and packs close at my work) People like her the reason I live such an eager and happy life. In hopes of meeting more amazing people like her! I talked to her about her daughter, dog, and life and unaware to her, changed my mindset. . She insisted on taking me to lunch and when she told her husband on the phone she had made a friend at work and came out to lunch with me, the happiness in her voice was enough to make my day. We ended our day together with a trip to the famous button and needle statue on fashion ave. and checked out a sample sale.
In the evening we went to a rooftop bar that overlooks the NYC ballet and it was gorgeous but not gorgeous enough to stay for all the $14 drinks so we headed to the Keg Room sports bar to watch the end of the wings game.Where Morgan somehow won a bet with the Chicago fans that resulted in them putting our drinks on their corporate card and spending an hour writing down all the bars in the area to try out, avoid, and tips on many things involving going out NYC style. So that was a helpful birthday present that is now hanging on our refrigerator.
I also received many other great birthday gifts that day:
- A cookie cake, drinks, and that ridiculous pin from Morgan and Alyssa
- A great birthday package from Adam including coffee beans and a grinder
-Oh! and a Tennis ball from Lexi (Adam's dog)
- And my lovely Aunt Margaret sent me a new clutch! (since the original she gave me was confiscate at the airport... who knew brass knuckles on a clutch would be considered dangerous)
And today was a lovely Saturday so I made the hour subway trip to Coney Island with some friends.
(Side-note: In case you were curious, this is where all the individuals from the Walmart photos live)
So there was great people watching, great slushies, and lot's of sunshine! Couldn't be happier! (Well unless I won the lottery and could afford more slushies, but I wont bank on that)
