Fourth Hanson Brother

I thought it would be a good idea to do a weekend sum up post but now I realize that was a fail of an idea since I can barely remember what I had for breakfast, let alone four days ago! But I'll do my best. It was rainy and somewhat chilly the entire weekend, but as I mentioned before, that means less people! Friday, Morgan and I decided to venture to Central park. We were entertained before even making it onto the subway, i love a good break dancing group, gave them my last dollar, totally worth it. Central Park was lovely. Stopped by a garden cafe, saw some street performers, strawberry fields, and the John Lennon Imagine Circle. Then,we decided to wander until we found an interesting restaurants, passed up many unique choices after concluding that our attire would really only be appropriate at a pub. So a pub it was! Our outfits did fit in, but us, not so much. It was a locals pub, an Irish locals pub and when we walked in everyone turned to look, but some soccer game was on to distract them away from us foreigners. Half the bar was violently rooting for the yellow team and the other half for the red team. (we would later find out that it was the championship league final soccer game, so I suppose that justify's why everyone there was in such an uproar) Thankfully our server spoke English and we were able to eat some French toast at a tiny table in the corner. And since all we really do is eat here, the next event of the evening was out to eat at the hard rock cafe where I saw Jon Bon Jovi... memorabilia and other cool rock star stuff.

I'm not really sure what happened on Saturday and Sunday.

Monday! Memorial Day! Not many other New Yorkers were feeling very patriotic apparently, but we made a group effort to remind them why they had the day off of work in our red, white, and blue outfits. In case they didn't know why they had the day off of work. Original plan was to go to a street fair on the upper west side of town. Got there. Realized it was the day before. Called our friend Meghan who was supposed to be meeting us there to let her know plan changed, meet us at central park. We get to what we think is central park, tell her were waiting there and thankfully a bystander heard us being morons and told us we were at riverside park, not central park. Looked to our left and sure enough there was the ocean, we had made it to the edge of the island. Soooo, after we told Meghan to stop waiting in central park for us, things turned out great! There was a board walk, sunshine, cafe, and drinks! So our fail of a plan turned into a great day lounging in the sun. It was a spectacular memorial weekend!

Then I went to work today and listened to everyone's weekend in the Hamptons stories -_-
One Day! Okay a girl can dream....

What's Our Address?

Sad news, we worked hard all week for a rainy day off! We still made the best of it though! My roommate Morgan and I decided to keep the work mode rolling with a trip to the New York Public library to work on some homework. I'm pretty sure that this library has more staircases than books, but it was still nifty! And we were able to find a spot in the same hall from the Day After Tomorrow movie ( if anyone knows that reference, it's the library hall Jake Gyllenhaal seeks safety in when global warming takes over) We then proceeded to make our way to times square to see if there we're any good discounted Broadway tickets for the night but got distracted by the famous crumbs cupcakes, and it started to down pour. Which brings me to my first piece of advice for anyone headed to the NYC area, NYC in the rain is very dangerous for the sole reason that apparently people are not aware that their umbrellas expand past their body and still continue to walk the same distance away from other patrons as they would sans umbrella. So if your tall like me, a short persons umbrella is right at eye level. Did I mention we live right next to koreatown? A.K.A. very dangerous for tall people in the area on a rainy day. Anyways, of course we couldn't resist the cupcakes so after a long deliberation a cookies and cream and peanut butter treat were ours. We then went home to have a photo-shoot with our $4.00 cupcakes because whats a good cupcake if the rest of the social media world is not envious of us? And then spent the rest of the gloomy evening hanging out inside the castle, making birthday plans (which is in less than 5 days!) and watching a movie. All in all it was a successful day here.

At Least We know You're Smarter Than a fifth Grader.

Hello All! Or no one, I guess it's not really appropriate to assume there will be an audience to read my blog, either way I will be recording my summer adventure in the big apple! Of course I move slow and it took me a few days to get this going; So I am going to recap for this first post since I have already been here for SIX days! I am living at the Herald Towers which is right in the heart of tourist central, which makes things even more crazy, and right next to the Empire State building. I have provided some lovely pictures of my new castle including one of our neighbor across the way, Jasper. His window faces ours and I'm positive he has declared us as his new best friends since he will prance around on his kitty tower and window seat whenever he sees us watching! I only have a few pictures to post since I have been decently busy since my arrival with exploring and working but more will come!

Speaking of work, the reason I am in NYC is to intern at the German design showroom here in America called Basler. I have interned here for a week and really love it! Although I have spent my time so far filing paper, creating excel charts, and tagging sample clothes, I am still thoroughly enjoying the opportunity, I have no problem doing busy work, I know my time will come! And I have been promised more exciting tasks as the buying season approaches... patience is key!

Other than work here is what I have done so far with my time:

  1. Times Square after dark.
  2. Learned that the best time to go out is when you do not want to because neither does half the rest of the city a.k.a. shop while it's raining.
  3. Concert in Bryant Park
  4. Made a friend in Martha, the adorable Hispanic worker at Basler. (She cleaned my white shirt that I stained, she is an angel)
  5. Metro to Brooklyn (which is now declared my future home)
  6. Grocery shopped at a store that carries normal bread an ramen noodles!
  7. Attempted to get into the bars with Alyssa: Fail. ( I'll get 'em Wednesday)
  8. Went two days without spending a dollar!
