Still Kickin' It

Well I guess I'll start recapping from about 6 weeks ago... haha not really that long, but it's been a while! For the weekend of the 4th my boyfriend, yeah that's right.. boyfriend, Adam came to visit; and it was the perfect break I needed! It was never below 92 degrees the entire time he was here, I'm surprised he didn't melt on the subways, and woke up to a cockroach crawling on him his first night here. New York made sure to treat him right. Aside from those events, we had a really great time. We decided to skip saving a spot on the river for 8 hours in the heat to watch the fireworks and instead wandered to Brooklyn, of course, and ended up finding a great spot on the water! I think we spent one entire day doing nothing but drinking coffee and discovered a bar with $8 pitchers (unheard of here) and free hot dogs! It was perfect.

I was sad for him to depart but I only had to work 4 more days to have another great weekend! My awesome grandparents helped me in surprising my family and flying me home for the weekend of my brothers graduation party! It was amazing to go home. Anyone who knows me knows that I have spent most of my life expressing my distaste for Michigan, but how dare I forget my favorite saying that the grass isn't greener on the other side, it's green where you water it. And let me tell you, there's no grass in New York for me to even water. So going home with a new view of my life there was awesome, as was the watered green grass! And seeing my family (:

We only have two weeks left in this insane city so Alyssa and I decided to spend this week as true New Yorkers. We went out everyday of the week, evening starting at 12 am and having to be at work the next day at 9 am.  One night out I met a fellow Michigander who now manages one of the city's largest model agencies. She mentioned two things that stuck with me, "success is contagious" and  "you could never explain this world to someone."  And yes, world is appropriate because even in my short time here I can tell you this place and how this city runs is unlike anything else, it literally is another world.

Since it's too hard to explain I'll just bullet point recap...

- Got inside the velvet ropes to Justin Biebers table (it's true, he's a tool, no I didn't take a picture because his body guards nearly tackled anyone with their phone out)
- Went out one night one night wearing sandals instead of heels, didn't get in.
- Rooftop pre-party at Mark Gortons apartment (his chihuahua tried to escape with us in the elevator)
-Ate all the Hors d'oeuvres at some fancy party since all the model party goers we're being rude denying all the trays of food this lovely people spent time making.

Because It's Awesome..

Pro: I've met so many really awesome, nice, and fun people.
Con: I've also encountered too many ridiculous, terrible, need to be punched in the face right now people.

Turns out living in the heart of New York is only cool for about two weeks. Way too many fanny pack wearing, lost, sky gawkers for my liking. So I continue to wander to Brooklyn quite frequently! I even thought it would be a good idea to walk there one day in search of  the perfect quaint coffee shop to try something new or unusual. Two and a half hours, sixty something blocks, and a bridge later I was way to parched to do anything but rush into the first cafe I saw and order the largest plain iced coffee they had. I guess it would've been worth it to pay the $2.50 subway fee...oh well.

Again in Brooklyn, we attended TropFest, The worlds largest short film festival! Food Trucks, live performances, a crowd of 50,000+, and extremely entertaining short films. I even attached two of my favorite finalists for you to watch. The first wins in my book because Morgan and I live that film every time we try to go get food.

Turns out the best and most cost effective way to party in NYC is to befriend promoters.  The unfair line cuts, $450 bottles of vodka, and sparkler bottle dances that encompass this nightlife scene all seem a bit ridiculous to me but ya can't pass up free drinks in a city that charges $10 for a vodka cranberry!

I have been assigned a market research project at work so that's going great, really stepping up my PowerPoint game. And since deciding to head in a more philanthropy based fashion direction, I have discovered so many great companies that do awesome things for the world so I started another blog for that and recently a pinterest! But I have no friends on there so if your feeling cool and want to help me feel less lame I added the link below and you can follow that page!

Oh and I'm 99% sure the Asian lady in the Kiss and Fly photo is a ghost...

Is That Your Natural Color?

I am being rushed to post as we are headed to the world largest short film festival for the day in just a few moments! But I wanted to get some pictures up since I haven't in a while! So in short summary:

  • I have been spending a lot of time in Brooklyn, it is much more chill than this crazy island and that's where the cool kids are.
  • Last weekend on my hunt for fathers day letters, Morgan and I stumbled across an art/music/food street festival. There was grass rolled out on the street and artists creating crazy spray paint murals. There was also a concert sponsored by converse!
  • I died my hair red. Why? Because I can and it looks awesome.
  • My friend asked me to help her with a photo shoot for the company she works for and the last photos are some of the result of that.
So that's a tiny little recap for ya! Everything is going good, my work isn't too shabby and I started the process for volunteering with Dress for Success! All is well over on this tiny part of the world and I will post pictures from today's festival later on!

Live From New York....

IT'S FATHERS DAY!!!

And since I have the greatest dad in the world who helps me pursue my dreams, who taught me at a young age to color in one direction making my crayola masterpieces more advanced (this is the truth, I have a vivid memory and find it very beneficial to my creative growth that he did that for me), and who gives arms and legs to make sure I can experience and have everything I could ever want... It is obvious that I must show my appreciation for him with a  NYC style photo letter collage!

I love you Carl and think you are the bombdiggity! Thank You for all you do for me!!

Oh! And Happy Fathers Day to all the other great daddios out there!

That's Him! There! On the Right!!

I asked my lovely brother to assist in sending me pictures of my dad and I for this awesome Fathers Day post and this is what I get... He's a doll. But at least Carl looks good!

A Life Lived for Art is Never A Life Wasted

I'm not feeling very talkative.
Red Hook art show we stumbled upon a few days ago.
It was at an old warehouse on the water.
And some of Morgans friends from Manchester just arrived to the states for the summer.
So they stayed with us for a few days.
